Customer Service Representative

Pennsylvania One Call System, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Customer Service Representative to join our team in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania.

About us:

Pennsylvania One Call System, Inc. is a non-profit service company dedicated to minimizing utility service interruptions, reducing on-the-job injuries and deaths, promoting a higher level of public safety and protecting the environment, available 24 hours per day, every day of the year.  We are seeking motivated, dependable people to staff our inbound contact center located in West Mifflin. Responsibilities including handling inbound calls, webchat, and email, from homeowners and excavators digging in Pennsylvania, gathering information about their proposed excavation project for relay to utilities and other underground facility owners to mark the location of known buried facilities.  The position requires extensive telephone work and data entry in a structured environment.   

Summary:

We are looking for a motivated, dependable individual who can listen to customer requests, locate proposed excavation sites on a map, accurately capture project data, and relay information to underground facility owners. The successful candidate for this role will have genuine desire to help customers, active listening skills, strong typing and spelling skills, and the ability to read a map.  Training will be 4 weeks and will be done at the office in West Mifflin, PA.

Responsibilities:

  • Handle inbound interactions homeowners, excavators, designers and utility companies 
  • Communicate empathetically with our customers to understand and address their needs 
  • Work accurately with close attention to detail 

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma, general education degree or equivalent 
  • Minimum of 2 years of previous experience within a customer facing environment preferred 
  • Exceptional phone skills and persuasive communication style 
  • Must be socially focused; “How can I help you?" attitude and a fast learner  
  • Ability to remain calm and courteous under pressure and navigate tense situations 
  • Proficient with a computer and ability to navigate through multiple applications including, but not limited to: Web applications,
    Chrome, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams or Zoom
  • Typing speed of 40+ WPM required 
  • Flexible schedule

Working for Pennsylvania 811 means you are helping to protect Pennsylvania’s underground infrastructure.
As a Damage Prevention Liaison (DPL) you will act as a community and industry representative, and help keep the community you live in safe. The successful candidate should be self-motivated and possess verbal communication skills to advocate our “Call Before You Dig” cause to underground facility owners, excavators, designers, engineers and other stakeholders. Responsibilities include outbound telephone calls to 500 members per year, conducting presentations and training sessions, coordinating stakeholder meetings, staffing trade shows, building relationships with our members, soliciting sponsorships for events and securing new members for our services. The DPL position is located at Pennsylvania 811 main office in West Mifflin, PA, with travel up to 75% of the time throughout the Commonwealth of PA, including overnight stays. Must live in Pennsylvania within a 25-mile radius of Cranberry Township, Pa.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Frequent travel to stakeholder work sites
  • Extensive travel throughout assigned region with occasional to frequent travel to other state regions as assigned

 HOURS:

Responsibilities include performing routine clerical and administrative functions such as answering the front console, greeting and checking in visitors, providing information to callers, opening mail, and maintaining paper and electronic files. The position requires extensive computer work and data entry in a structured environment.   

Summary:

We are looking for a motivated, dependable individual who can listen to customer requests, answer questions about the organization in a timely manner, monitor building access and use an intercom system, and provide clerical support. The successful candidate for this role will have genuine desire to help customers, active listening skills, and strong typing and spelling skills. 

Responsibilities:

  • Operate telephone switchboard to answer, screen and forward calls in a polite manner, transferring calls to voice mail when appropriate personnel are unavailable or accurately taking messages
  • Monitors building access cameras and uses intercom system to identify visitor and nature of visit, granting access only to expected guests, delivery personnel, vendors having business with the company, or employees that may have forgotten their access badges
  • Greet everyone granted access to the reception area in a courteous and professional manner, checks visitors into front desk security system, issues name badges/passes, announces visitors to appropriate personnel, and seats visitors until an employee escort arrives
  • Open, sort, and distribute incoming correspondence, including faxes and email
  • Enters supply requisitions daily to create picking lists for Shipping & Receiving personnel to fill order received from members and internal staff

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and six months previous experience or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and computer systems and applications, such as Windows, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe, filing and records management systems, note taking and transcription, forms design principles, and other office procedures and terminology
  • Exceptional phone skills and persuasive communication style 
  • Must be socially focused; “How can I help you?" attitude and a fast learner
