No Cost Damage Prevention Campaigns Promoting Safe Digging

Pennsylvania 811 is a privately funded non-profit Pennsylvania Corporation. Our purpose is to prevent damage to underground facilities. To promote safety, we provide an efficient and effective communications network among project owners, designers, excavators, and facility owners. To assist you with your safe digging promotions, we have compiled a list of several successful public safety awareness campaigns that you are welcome to use. For questions about any of the 811 campaigns or to share ideas, please contact daschwartzmiller@pa1call.org. To learn more about Pennsylvania 811, click here. Damage Prevention Language

National campaigns use generic slogans which work with all damage prevention campaigns: "Know what's below. Call before you dig." - "Always Call 811 Before You Dig." - "One free, easy call gets your utility lines marked." - "Safe Digging is No Accident."

Pennsylvania One Call Center business name:  "Pennsylvania One Call System, Inc." - "Pennsylvania 811"

Pennsylvania-specific language can be used in a campaign to promote behavior according to the law:  "At least 3 business days before digging." - "Free toll-free telephone call to 811." - "18" Tolerance Zone" - "PA Act 287, as amended."

Fire House 811 Campaign

Pennsylvania 811 has expanded its public awareness campaign to promote safe digging practices within local communities across Pennsylvania. The FIRE HOUSE 811 campaign encourages fire companies to take a stand against trenching incidents within their communities by promoting "Call 811 Before You Dig". Participating fire houses have seven chances to win $500! The drawings occur 7 times a year: May 12, June 9, July 14, August 11, September 8, October 13 and November 10. One entry per fire station. A picture and address is needed to qualify as an entry. If a fire house does not have a marquee, Pennsylvania 811 will supply the station with a 4 x 8 ft banner.

2017 Sponsors:  Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania, PPL Electric Utilities, PECO Energy, UGI, UGI Energy Services and Pennsylvania 811.
